Russia 2 - St Petersburg

Not much further along was St Isaac Cathedral, originally the city's main church and the largest cathedral in Russia, built in 1858. Its massive granite columns were made from single pieces of red granite. As with many of the larger churches it was closed in the early 1930s and reopened as a museum, only occasionally holding religious services.
